When recruiting new staff, we look for individuals who show a keenness to work hard and be part of a team.  

To do this job, you’ll need practical skills, the ability to read plans and good concentration levels and be able to work both on your own and with others.  Problem solving and an understanding of programmable operating systems would also be an advantage.

You don’t need any set qualifications but some experience of, or a qualification in engineering may be helpful. You can also start an engineering career through an Apprenticeship Scheme.  

Work experience within an engineering company is an ideal way of finding out if this type of work is suited to you.

National Qualification (F.T. at College) Mechanical, Electrical or Fabrication and Welding

SVQ 2 (F.T. at College) Pre Apprentice Programmes.  Performing Engineering Operations

SVQ 3 (on the job training) Mechanical, General, Electrical, Welding and Fabrication

HNC (part time college) Electrical, Fabrication and Welding, Manufacturing

In House Training (Short Day Courses)  First Aid, Cherry Picker, Forklift, Telehandler, Slinger Banksman, Confined Spaces, Working at Heights and any other relevant qualification
